Let automix run, then listen to its choices

Automix plays the track list currently on show in Hearhood's full DJ layout. It uses decks 1 and 2, synchronises the next track and fades it in over sixteen bars by default from a phrase position. Check the fade setting, which can change that duration. It is a practice convenience, not a guarantee that every transition suits the music.

Prepare the list before starting

Use a computer, load your own music files and show the playlist or list you want to practise. Check the displayed order. A filtered view is not necessarily the whole library, and automix follows the list on show.

Listen to the tracks separately first. Confirm that the files open, the levels are sensible and the beat grids are plausible. Save a separate copy of music and library work that matters to you.

Start with two compatible tracks

Choose Automix above the decks. Observe which track is playing and which is being prepared next. Listen through a handover before adding more tracks or changing other controls.

The automatic fade can bring two vocal sections together or make an energy change you dislike. Software timing does not decide whether two musical ideas work well together. The vocal-clash guide gives you a way to investigate that problem.

Compare, rather than surrender control

Write one observation: the incoming track started too early, the level jumped, or the transition felt smooth. Stop automix and try a manual handover of the same pair using your first transition.

Changing one choice lets you compare the automated handover with your own. Do not add effects to cover an unexplained timing problem.

What can go wrong?

Incorrect tempo analysis, an offset downbeat, variable-tempo music or a surprising track order can undermine the result. Inspect the deck's Grid controls and the selected list when the transition does not behave as expected.

Do not rely on a first, untested automix run for an event. This guide does not establish unattended reliability, output routing or performance on your particular computer. The phone's one-track listening screen is not the full automix workflow described here.
